IN THE AREA
Barn Owl Camping is a good base for getting out and about around East Anglia. Either the Coast or Cambridge and Norwich can be reached within an hour.
Medieval Lavenham, famed for its Guildhalls, 15th- century church and half timbered medieval cottages, along with Long Melford (Kentwell Hall) and the town of Sudbury are only a 20 minute drive away.
Bury St Edmunds a picturesque, thriving market town can also be reached within 20 minutes. This town boasts a great collection of venues for eating, drinking, shopping and relaxing, making it a great place to visit.
There are also plenty of routes for keen cyclists from exploring the landscapes of Great Finborough and RAF Rattlesden to heading out to Drinkstone WindMills and the lovely village of Woolpit.
MUSEUM OF EAST ANGLIAN LIFE
Just 8 miles away you can encounter the history and natural world of East Anglia on the beautiful 75 acre site surrounding the Museum of East Anglian Life. Discover 15 splendidly restored historic buildings, explore woodlands or the riverside nature trails, while learning about fascinating East Anglian crafts.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
Thetford Forest is about a 30 minute drive from here and is the largest lowland pine forest in Britain. It is home to hundreds of miles of fast flowing single-track trails and routes. With 4 routes on show from the green rated family orientated Shepherd trail to the more challenging red graded Brater and Lime Burner Trails.
MID SUFFOLK LEISURE CENTRE
Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre offers a range of activities from a nice size swimming pool and indoor bowls to the Play World soft play area and 330 m2 of climbing space.
ALTON WATER
Located around 30 minutes from Rattlesden you will find Alton Water which stretches across some 400 acres and is the perfect place to stay for a couple of hours or the whole day.
If you feel like a stroll, then you can benefit from the many walking trails and nature trails at the park. For more adrenaline-filled action, there is the eight mile cross country cycling track or a range of watersports on offer. There is also the opportunity to enjoy a day on the water fishing.
